BASA Red-Shirt Referee Program

The BASA Red-Shirt Referee Program is designed for individuals age 13 and older who are interested in learning more about officiating soccer.

This program provides an opportunity to gain on-field experience, develop confidence, and support BASA recreational games — especially when certified referees are limited.

Who is this Program for?

The Red-Shirt Program is ideal for:

  • Players considering becoming a certified referee
  • Teens looking to earn money while staying involved in soccer
  • Individuals interested in building leadership and communication skills

No prior officiating experience is required.

What the Program Includes

The BASA Red-Shirt Referee Program is free to join and includes:

  • A referee training session
  • On-field mentoring during games
  • A “BASA REFEREE” shirt
  • A whistle

Participants receive guidance and support as they learn the fundamentals of officiating.

Game Pay

Red-Shirt Referees are paid:

$15 per game

(Paid in cash following each game.)

Pathway to Certification

The Red-Shirt Program is a great stepping stone toward becoming a certified referee. Participants gain valuable experience that prepares them for official certification and higher-level assignments.
