Practices are where players learn, grow, and build confidence.

You don’t need complicated drills or long sessions — simple, active, and fun practices are the most effective.

Use the resources below to guide your practices based on your team’s age group.

What Makes a Great Practice?

  • Keep players active (avoid long lines)
  • Focus on skill development and fun
  • Keep instructions simple
  • Adjust to your players’ age and ability
  • Create a positive environment 

Simple Practice Structure (60 Mins)

Warm-Up (10 min)

  • Dribbling or movement activity

Skill Activity (15–20 min)

  • Focus on one skill (passing, shooting, etc.)

Small-Sided Game (20 min)

  • Let them play and apply skills

Scrimmage (10–15 min)

  • Game-like play 


Keep things moving and avoid long explanations.

Sample Practice Plan

Example: U8 Practice

Warm-Up: Dribble around grid

Skill: Dribbling through cones

Game: Sharks & Minnows

Scrimmage: 3v3 or 4v4

Understanding Positions

Defense: Protect the goal and pass forward

Midfield: Move the ball up the field

Forward: Try to score

Don’t worry about perfect positioning — focus on helping players understand the flow of the game.
