Game Rules & Age Group Guidelines
BASA uses age-appropriate rules to support player development and create a positive game experience.
This page provides a simplified overview of rules by age group, along with explanations of key rules introduced as players grow.

AGE DIVISION RULE SHEETS
The following are simplified Rules Sheets for each Age Division played in the BASA Recreation Program.
OFfside RUle
The offside rule prevents players from gaining an unfair advantage by staying near the opponent’s goal.
A player is offside if they are in an advanced position when the ball is played to them and are involved in the play.

The Offside Rule only comes into play in the U10, U12 and U15 Divisions
The Build-Out Line
The build-out line is used to promote player development and allow teams to play the ball out from the back.
When the goalkeeper has possession, the opposing team must move behind the build-out line before play resumes.

The Build-Out Line is only used in the U10 Division
Important Game Rules
- Shin guards are required
- No jewelry allowed
- Proper cleats only (no baseball cleats)
- Players must enter/exit at midfield for substitutions (U8+)
- Equal playing time is expected
Sideline & Game Environment
- Spectators will sit on the same sideline as their team, teams and their respective spectators must stay on opposite sides
- No spectators behind goals
- Only coaches are allowed in the team area
- Respect referees at all times
