BASA Travel Program

The BASA Travel Program is designed for players seeking a higher level of competition and commitment beyond recreational soccer. Our travel teams compete against clubs from Mid-Michigan and across the state, depending on age group and league affiliation.

Teams are led by licensed, experienced coaches and are available for players in U9–U19 age groups. Our travel teams regularly compete in regional and state tournaments, earning championship titles and finalist finishes throughout the year.

Travel Program Tryouts for the 2026/27 Travel Season will be held on June 13 & 14, 2026. Times and additional details will be posted here as they are confirmed and finalized.

Tryout Registration will be available a month or so prior to tryouts - a link will be available below to register for tryouts. There is no cost to register.

U9–U12:

Teams compete in the Mid-Michigan Youth Soccer League (MMYSL).

Opponents typically include clubs from Midland, Saginaw, Mt. Pleasant, Frankenmuth, Freeland, and surrounding areas. Occasional travel may include Lansing, Petoskey, or Traverse City.

U13 & Older:

Teams typically compete in the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program (MSPSP).

Depending on division, teams may compete against clubs from across the state.

Each team plays approximately 8 league games per season, with half at home and half away.

The travel year is split into two primary seasons:

Fall Season: Late August – Late October

Spring Season: Late April – Early June

Winter Training: January – Early April (varies by team)

U16–U19 teams only play one season:

Girls compete in the fall

Boys compete in the spring

Tryouts are required for all travel players. They take place in early/mid June following the conclusion of the spring recreational season.

Players are evaluated by coaches and placed on teams based on birth year. State roster limits apply to each age group, and roster spots are limited.

Practices:

• Two times per week during the season
• 60–90 minutes per session
• Held at the BASA Complex when available

Games:

• Primarily on weekends
• Occasional weeknight games for local matchups
• Full schedule is released prior to the season start
• Schedules rarely change unless necessary
• Game lengths vary by age group, starting at 25-minute halves for U9 and increasing with age. Games for older teams can run up to 80-90min with halftime included.

Participation in tournaments is determined by each team’s coach.

Mandatory Tournament:

All travel teams participate in BASA’s annual Soccerween Tournament in October.

Additional Tournaments:

Coaches typically select 1–2 tournaments per season. Popular events include Midland, Petoskey, Canton, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City. Some teams may choose to attend an overnight tournament, depending on team interest.

Tournament costs are divided among players and typically range from $30–$60 per player per tournament. These costs are not included in BASA travel registration fees.

Many teams participate in winter training or indoor leagues.

Winter training typically runs January through early April and may include:

• Indoor training sessions
• Futsal leagues
• Indoor tournaments

Winter activities are optional and are not included in BASA travel registration fees.
